Select a shielding gas suitable for aluminium to ensure a stable arc and controlled droplet transfer.
For aluminium welding applications, inert shielding gases are used, typically argon or argon/helium. An incorrect, contaminated or unstable shielding gas can make the arc unstable and may cause spatter, oxidation or porosity.
Argon supports good arc control. Argon/helium mixtures can be helpful with higher heat dissipation or greater material thicknesses. Check gas type, gas purity, flow rate, tightness, torch distance and possible draughts.
